Day 28 17 June from Villafranca del Bierzo to las Herreirias

At the end of the day we wander through Herreirias and find the same exercise equipment in their "local park" as we have seen in many larger villages.   Both of us test out the 3 exercises... After all we've only cycled an easy 14 km today... Fields of lace flowers and a stream...

I forgot to say that we picked lavender last night coming back after supper and put this under our pillows last night- slept sooo well. ( Rob sniffing lavender here!)

Leaving Villafranca, statue of St James to guide our way forward...

Signage ok here but signage gets worse..-and we miss all the pilgrims shrines and stones..

We Ride through a long tunnel through the mountain..

Pretty little village we ride around 10 a.m...

Not sure.. Nativity scene? Fairy story?   But have seen a few gardens with these ornaments...

Another village ... By this time Rob has taken off his helmet to put on his hat to protect his neck.. It's hot, around 27 degrees..

Lovely woodland and wild flowers..

We stop at a small church - in a village of about 100 max- and even this alter is elaborate... But it's beautiful and easy to say a prayer...

A couple on tandem bike...

Neglected signage.. We haven't seen this till now.. Countryside is not as clearly marked..

Pretty road lots of logs....

And I think chestnut trees...

We get to Herreirias,  a really small village .... not even a pharmacia!  (That we could spot)

I admire the many vegetable gardens the Spanish all have...

Different view of this  village...

Lunch- mixta insulata for me and queso bocadillo for Rob...

Herreirias claim to fame.. It's 15 C bridge!

Even Rob paddles in the stream ...

Some are taking horses up to o Cebreirra, steep steep climb tomorrow!  They have their rucksacks on their backs.

Local park... Again..

Whooaaaaa, and tomorrow up we go... Warned!

The guesthouse we are staying at tonight..

Outside our bedroom...

It was amazing watching these horses being fed. There was a definite hierarchy .... older mare chased away the younger mare who chased away the recent addition older mare who had only been there a few  days.

While we having a glass of wine thus guy from San Marino walks in and my initial reaction is .... Where us San Marino .......
